ABOUT THE TREE OF LIGHT

Christmas is a time for families, for remembering, for celebrating and for giving and it is at times such as this that the loss of a loved one can be most keenly felt. We invite you to sponsor a light on our Tree of Light in the Westwood Cross Shopping Centre, in memory of a loved one, or to support a cause which is dear to you.

The name and the symbolism of the Tree of Light are reminders that there is light and hope in the bleakest of circumstances and the Tree of Light enables sponsors to grieve in a positive way and, at the same time, to help worthwhile local charities which support those who are in need.

Viewing the lights on the tree is a tribute to the lives and the spirit of those who have touched our lives but are no longer alive to celebrate another year. Being around others, who have also experienced a loss and understand the grief, can be very comforting and supportive.

The Tree of Light Concept was first brought to Telford Rotary Club from South Africa 15 years ago and this inspired the Thanet Rotary Clubs to establish a Tree of Light at Westwood Cross in 2009.
